KZNTA is a non-profit organisation, affiliated to the national controlling body, Triathlon South Africa. Triathlon is a small, but growing discipline in KZN and the aim of KZNTA is to grow this exciting sport and introduce it to athletes from the entire province.
A triathlon is a multi-sport endurance event consisting of swimming, cycling, and running in immediate succession over various distances. Triathletes compete for fastest overall course completion time, including timed "transitions" between the individual swim, bike, and run components. Wikipedia has a lot of detailed information on Triathlons and the associated variations.
Duathlon is another growing discipline which falls under the auspices of KZNTA. Duathlon is an event that consists of a running leg, followed by a cycling leg and then another running leg in a format bearing some resemblance to triathlons. (Find out more information about Duathlons on Wikipedia.)
A Cross triathlon and Cross Duathlon, or Off-road triathlon and duathlon, is the off-road form of triathlon and duathlon. Distances of the various legs are a lot "looser" for these events. (Find out more information about Cross Triathlons on Wikipedia.)
Aquathlon is also a discipline which falls under the auspices of KZNTA. It is an event that consists of a running leg, followed by a swimming leg and then another running leg in a format bearing some resemblance to triathlons. (Find out more information about Aquathlons on Wikipedia.)
All athletes who can swim, cycle and run are invited to contact the association. Those who cannot swim are invited to participate in the duathlon.
